This might seem like a funny question for some. I mean, everyone wants to be their own boss and work from home, right?
Well, this is definitely true for most people out there. Most people dread weekday-mornings, going to work and doing a job they hate. They truly live for the weekends and if you’re reading this, you are probably one of those people.
What is your reason to be your own boss from home and what would you want to achieve? Do you hate your job and what you do for a living, or do you want more time to spend with your family?
Below I’ve got some of the most popular reasons why people want to work from home and what they actually achieve by working from home.
This is the most popular reason why people decide they want to work from home.
Many couples reach a certain age in their lives where they decide they are ready to have children. The only problem with this is, you are going to give a lot more time to the newborn than anything else in your life and the worst part is, this is not short-term.
The best way out is for you to quit your job and work from home. This way you will have a lot more time to take care of the baby and you will have more time for yourself.
If you are not sure how to afford to work from home, check out one of my previous posts about how you can achieve financial freedom.
You hate your job
This is probably the worst situation that you can be in.
Think about it, you spend most of your day at work. You probably leave home at 7:00 and only get back at 18:00. This means you are at work longer than you are at home (if you don’t count sleeping).
It is insane if you think about it this way. Now, if you are unhappy at your workplace or you just don’t like the kind of work that you do, it can be horrible. And the worst part is, you can’t just quit your job because you need to put bread on the table and we all know how scarce work is these days.
If this is you, my suggestion will be to use this situation as your motivation (this is what I did). Whenever you get mad at work or can’t stand the place anymore, channel this energy into finding ways to become financially free and escape the rat race. This will truly help you to achieve your goals faster.
Don’t you just hate it when the office’s phone can’t stop ringing or there is constantly somebody at the front door?
As a result of all this constant noise going on, you can’t get your work done and your boss can’t understand why. Well, one thing is for sure, you will have much more peace and quiet, working from home (depending on what you decide to do).
Remember, if you are planning to be your own boss from home, it doesn’t necessarily mean you won’t have any calls or nobody bothering you. If you decide you are going to run a daycare center, chances are very good that you will have no peace and quite.
I would, therefore, advise you to decide beforehand what exactly it is that you want from this. If you want peace and quiet, rather look for something like blogging or freelance writing. This way you can determine what will increase your productivity and adapt your work environment accordingly. You are after all your own boss.
You decide when and where
This is one of the best reasons why you would want to be your own boss from home.
Again, this depends on what you decide to do.
You decide where and when you want to work. If you are thinking of taking a Friday off to go to the beach, you can do it. You can just put in extra hours of work on another day (if you have to).
Also, if you decide that today, you are going visit that new coffee shop around the corner and do your work there, you can do it. You can work when and where you want at your pace.
Just remember that if you are going to be working from coffee shops all the time, your coffee bill is going to be a significantly more than normal so I won’t advise it, except if you make enough money to afford it.
Stay in touch
Let’s face it, when your working 10 hours a day and give your all at the office, you don’t have the strength to make time for your friends at night, for that drink you’ve promised them for so long.
It sucks because you really want to hang out with them but you just can’t. This is truly not a wonderful situation to be in and as a result of this a lot of people end up losing their friends.
When you’re working from home, you have a lot more freedom to make time for those long-lost friends of yours. Whether it is for a quick coffee during (their) lunch or a night out in town, you will be able to spend more time with them.
Avoid traffic and travel costs
Yes, nobody likes traffic or paying so much for fuel and that is a fact.
By working from home and choosing your workplace, you are able to cut transport costs by a whole lot. Depending on where you work, you will be able to easily save about 70% of your costs by not driving to and from work.
So, in addition to the money your making, you will be saving more as well. These all add up at the end of the day.
If you are one of the unlucky ones who gets to drive the same route that the whole world is driving every day (feels like it), then I know you are frustrated as soon as you climb into your vehicle. The good news is, you can avoid it.
Just be your own boss from home…Not that easy hey? I know, but with motivation, dedication and a whole lot of persistence, you will be able to do it.
I bet you didn’t know about all the tax benefits of being your own boss?
Nobody likes to pay tax because of the fact that somebody else is taking the money that you worked so hard for and without even saying thank you. Well, now you can take back some of the money they “stole” from you.
When you are working for yourself, you can deduct things like cell phone bills, stationery, meals, travel costs, car related expenses, medical expenses and much more. Just remember you can only deduct it if it was for a business purpose.
To be your own boss from home is one of the best things you can do (my opinion). The fact that you can work where you want and when you want is awesome. You decide when it’s time to take lunch and whether or not you want to actually work today.
Just remember as, with everything in life, it has its pros and cons. Nothing is perfect, but working from home is definitely better than working for somebody else and making them rich.
